SEC Announces Panelists for Credit Ratings Roundtable

The Securities and Exchange Commission has revealed the panelists for its Credit Ratings Roundtable to be held on May 14. The event will consist of three panels, each tasked with analyzing a specific aspect of corporate regulation. The SEC has selected a diverse range of panelists with a balance between leading industry representatives and prominent academics.

The first panel will discuss the potential creation of a credit rating assignment system for asset-backed securities. The second roundtable will critique the efficacy of the SEC’s current system with regards to unsolicited ratings of asset-backed securities. The final panel will discuss other alternatives to the current issuer-pay business model under which the issuer selects and pays the firm it wants to provide credit ratings for its securities.
