IOSCO Publishes Report on Technological Challenges to Market Surveillance

IOSCO has published a final report on Technological Challenges to Market Surveillance, which makes a series of recommendations to assist authorities to address emerging challenges in market surveillance. In recent years, technological developments in securities markets have made it increasingly difficult for authorities to ensure that trading is fair and compliant with regulations.

The report provides an overview of the current market surveillance regimes and specifically identifies the main challenges posed by emerging technology. IOSCO also analyses new regulatory tools within the technology space, including a single reporting point for all transactions, unique entity identifiers and audit trails that allow authorities reconstruct certain trades.
