Speakers

Professor Dimity Kingsford Smith
Professor Dimity Kingsford Smith is MinterEllison Chair in Risk and Regulation and one of Australia’s leading corporate law scholars. She specialises in areas of corporate and financial regulation, corporate governance, online investing and regulatory theory and policy. As Director of the Centre for Law, Markets and Regulation from 2016-2018, she was and remains a leading voice in corporate and financial regulation. Dimity previously served as the National Australia Bank’s first Wealth Customer Advocate and is a member of ASIC’s External Advisory Panel. She was the inaugural chair of the Conduct Review Commission of the Financial Planners Association and recently led a large ACR Linkage Grant on the professionalisation of the financial sector. She has undertaken contract research for the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and last year she consulted for CBA on customer policy and regulation. She was also a member of the Expert Advisory Panel assisting APRA in its recent review of enforcement (2018-2019).

Dr Simon Longstaff AO FCPA
Simon Longstaff began his working life on Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory of Australia. He is proud of his kinship ties to the Anindilyakwa people. After a period studying law in Sydney and teaching in Tasmania, he pursued postgraduate studies as a Member of Magdalene College, Cambridge. In 1991, Simon commenced his work as the first Executive Director of The Ethics Centre. In 2013, he was made an officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for “distinguished service to the community through the promotion of ethical standards in governance and business, to improving corporate responsibility, and to philosophy.’ Simon is an Honorary Professor at the Australian National University, a Fellow of CPA Australia, the Royal Society of NSW and the Australian Risk Policy Institute. He serves on a number of Boards and Committees and as Independent Integrity Adviser to the Australian Taxation Office

Professor Kristy Muir
Professor Kristy Muir is the CEO of the Centre for Social Impact (CSI) and Professor of Social Policy at UNSW Sydney Business School. She has worked for more than two decades with for-purpose organisations to help understand, measure, and find innovative solutions to complex social problems. Kristy has undertaken more than 70 projects with many corporate, government, not-for-profit, academic and philanthropic organisations to help improve social impact. These projects, which have attracted almost $16 million in funding, span housing, education, employment, social participation, disability, mental health, social impact investment and financial wellbeing. Her work has been featured in many journals and in popular media, such as TEDx, The Guardian and The Conversation.

Mark Adams 
Mark Adams is Senior Executive Leader, Strategic Intelligence, at Australian Securities and Investments Commission. Mark leads the team responsible for ASIC's economic and risk analysis as well as driving ASIC's data science agenda. Mark also coordinates ASIC's Innovation Hub. Mark has held a range of senior executive positions at ASIC including lead of ASIC's competition in equity markets project and the Exchange Market Operators, Regulatory Policy and International teams. Between 2012 to 2014, Mark held secondments as Principal Adviser, Financial System Inquiry Secretariat and Director, Strategy, Research and Risk, Ontario Securities Commission. Prior to joining ASIC, Mark worked in the corporate and superannuation areas of a national law firm.

Professor Tim Soutphommasane
A political theorist and human rights advocate, Tim Soutphommasane is a Professor of Practice (Sociology and Political Theory) at University of Sydney. He was Australia’s Race Discrimination Commissioner from 2013 to 2018 and is the author of five books. He was awarded a NSW Premier's Literary Award in 2013 for ‘Don't Go Back To Where You Came From’published in 2012, and a UN Media Award in 2013 for the documentary series ‘Mongrel Nation’. His thinking on multiculturalism, patriotism and national identity has been influential in shaping debates in Australia and Britain. He is a director of The Cranlana Programme and was the founding chair of the Leadership Council on Cultural Diversity.
