Designing Regulations for a Rapidly Evolving Financial System in India

DFS Research Team member, Dr Katharine Kemp, made a keynote address at the Conference on Designing Regulations for a Rapidly Evolving Financial System in Chennai, India, in August this year, hosted by Dvara Research.

Katharine addressed the Conference on “Big Data and Financial Inclusion: Regulating the Use of Data in Financial Services”, emphasising the importance of appropriate data collection and data protection regulation in the provision of digital financial services in emerging countries. The slides from Katharine’s presentation are included below and her guest blog post following the presentation is available here.

Dvara Research (formerly known as IFMR Finance Foundation) is a financial systems policy research institution in India. Its mission is to ensure that every individual and every enterprise has complete access to financial services. “Dvara” coined from the Sanskrit word “dvarata”, meaning access, refers to this vision of enabling opportunities and new beginnings for millions of low-income households.

Since visiting Chennai in August, Katharine has become a member of the international Advisory Board of the Future of Finance Initiative at Dvara Research. We are delighted to continue to connect with the impressive research team at Dvara and look forward to many productive exchanges.
