Multilateral institutions release joint statement on trade facilitation assistance

The African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, Inter, American Development Bank, IMF and World Bank Group have released a joint statement reiterating their strong collective commitment to supporting trade facilitation. Since 2008, the multilateral institutions have disbursed 22 billion US dollars in concessional support for economic infrastructure and building productive capacity in developing countries. Trade facilitation programs have more than doubled since 2008 based on evidence that trade facilitation reforms help maximize the economic impact of trade-related infrastructure assistance. The institutions also flagged the potential for a WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement which would add further momentum to efforts to developing country competitiveness, and provide a multilateral framework to shape and guide trade facilitation efforts taking place at the regional and national level.
