European Parliament Assessment of the Cumulative Impact of Various Regulatory Initiatives on the European Banking Sector

An assessment concerning the cumulative impact of various regulatory initiatives on the European banking sector was published by the European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee.  This study  considers the following regulatory initiatives: (i) the revision of the Capital Requirements Directive (CRD IV); (ii) the regulation of short selling and credit default swaps; (iii) the regulation of Credit Rating Agencies; (iv) the reform of Deposit Guarantee Schemes; (v) the reform of Investor Compensation Schemes; (vi) the review of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive; (vii) the proposed Directive on financial transaction tax and bank levies; (viii) additional capital requirements for systemically important financial institutions; (ix) the regulation of bank restructuring and resolution procedures; and (x) changes to accounting rules.
